Here’s another edition of The Prospector: Actionable ideas and inspiration to help you prospect, push more deals, and drive profit in B2B sales.
(skip to the middle to jump right into the latest news and articles)
Let’s jump back in time to one of my favorite TV shows: Game of Thrones.
I’ve been binge-watching GOT for a second time, and when I think about the ruthless House of Lannister, they taught us...
5 valuable Lannister House lessons about winning (both in life and B2B sales)
1. “A Lannister always pays his debts” isn’t just a catchphrase. It’s about building a reputation.
Everyone knows the Lannisters as filthy rich, calculating, and—here’s the kicker—reliable.
“A Lannister always pays his debts” is their entire strategy and brand. And guess what? It works.
B2B sales are similarly all about consistency and reliability. Do you want people to trust you? Deliver every single time. No excuses.
Say what you’re going to do and then do it, just like the Lannisters, who had half the realm on their side simply because everyone knows they always deliver on their word. Just make sure you stay on their good side!
2. Tywin Lannister is a masterclass in customer and market analytics.
Now, here’s a guy who knows how to play the game. Master strategist. Always two steps ahead. And he never guesses or wings it. He’s got the intel, the resources, and the foresight to know his enemies’ next moves.
In B2B sales, you have to channel that Tywin energy. Know your customer, their pain points, their dreams, the whole shebang. Don’t just sell — solve. Predict their needs like Tywin predicts battle outcomes, and boom, you're the expert they didn't even know they needed.
3. Be as adaptable as Cersei Lannister…
–without killing anyone or doing anyone dirty, of course,
One minute, Cersei’s blowing up the Sept of Baelor. Next, she’s striking deals with the enemy.
It’s the same in B2B sales. Things change, budgets get slashed, decision-makers disappear, and priorities shift overnight.
But you? You’re ready for anything, just like Cersei. Never stuck in one way of doing things. Always ready to make a new move.
4. Channel Tyrion Lannister’s persuasive skills.
Now, Tyrion (my personal fave) is the smooth talker, the storyteller of the Lannisters. He knows how to work a crowd and spin a tale that makes people lean in. Those are the communication skills you need in sales.
Forget boring templatized pitches, where you plug a prospect’s name in. Turn your pitches into captivating stories! Paint a picture for your listeners that’s so vibrant they can’t help but buy. Make them feel something. Share those wins, those moments that make a prospect think, “Yeah, that’s what I want.”
5. Jaime Lannister’s redemption arc can show you how to overcome sales objections.
Jaime Lannister gets overlooked often, but don’t sleep on him. The man goes from Kingslayer to a sort of hero because he owns up and shows loyalty.
Think you can’t come back from a lost deal or a tough objection? Think again. Instead of giving up, keep building those bridges, being honest, and showing up. Keep proving your worth, over and over. That’s how you turn a "No" into a "Maybe," which eventually becomes a "Heck yes!"
